15 train cars derail off track in Ashland County

Officials are advising drivers to avoid the area if possible.

LOUDONVILLE, OH -- A train derailment in Ashland County has several roads blocked off and has hazmat crews on scene.

Sources tell WKYC that the train derailed around 4 a.m. Saturday morning in Loudonville. 15 of the train cars derailed off the track.

Four of the derailed cars were carrying Zinc Oxide crude, while another was carrying odorless propane. Officials say it is "not a real concern" at this time, but it could become one as time progresses.

Major streets that are blocked off to drivers include State Route 39 between Perrysville and Loudonville, East 3rd St. in Perrysville, and North Mount Vernon Road in Loudonville. Drivers are advised to avoid the area and detours have been being set up.

While the train's engineer and conductor were both "shaken up," authorities say no one was injured in the crash.

This is a developing story. Stay with WKYC as more details become available.
